Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced monitoring inspection that was conducted today, February 1, 2016. The on-site visit was conducted from 10:20 a.m. to 2:25p.m. At the time of arrival there were sixty-nine (69) children in eight (8) classrooms and in the care of fifteen (15) staff members. Two (2) additional staff members were available to assist if needed. The total enrollment for the program was one hundred forty-seven (147) children. There were six (6) staff members' records and five (5) children's records reviewed. There were eight (8) staff members and five (5) children interviewed. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for one (1) child. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice and the risk rating for the violation was discussed. Lunch was observed to meet the USDA guidelines and consisted of chicken nuggets, brown rice, mixed vegatables, applesauce, and milk. The theme for the week was groundhogs/predictions. Infant feeding, infant care and play, diapering procedures, language art activities, story time, circle time, choice time, hand washing and bathroom procedures, lunch, nap time, and dismissal procedures were observed during the visit. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on thermometer readings and verification from the assistant director, the water temperature in sinks in three different classrooms measured above 120 degrees. Evidence: The water temperature was measured in three classrooms during the 02/01/2016 inspection. 1. The temperature in Classroom # 4 measured 131.4 degrees, the temperature in Classroom # 5 measured 129.4 degrees, and the temperature in Classroom # 7 measured 132.0 degrees. 2. The assistant director stated that the hot water heater had shut down one day and they had to reset it. They had put in a maintenance request to have the temperature lowered. Plan of Correction: During the visit, the staff lowered the thermostat on the hot water heater and within a couple hours the temperature of the water was measuring below 120 degrees. They will still have maintenance look at the hot water heater.
