- Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed program leader qualifications and documentation of emergency evacuation drills.
An unannounced monitoring inspection of the facility inside and outside and records was conducted from 9:50am through 11:05am. There were 92 children present with 11 teaching staff and one case manager. Five children?s records were reviewed. . Interviews were conducted with children and staff. Staff records are stored at a central location and will be reviewed at a later date. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including breakfast, center play, circle time, stories, transitions, and restroom routines. The inspector reviewed current insurance documentation, fire and health inspections and emergency evacuation drills. 11 medication authorizations were reviewed. With parent written permission some children are transported to and from the center daily. Parent authorizations were reviewed during record review. The following violation was found in the following area and is cited on the violation notice: physical plant.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that areas are maintained in safe condition. Evidence: 1 - In classroom C there is a computer and computer equipment plugged into outlets on the wall approximately 3 feet between the two. There are no less than four electrical cords dangling within reach of children. The dangling cords pose an entanglement hazard. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the cords pose an entanglement hazard. Plan of Correction: Center management will rearrange the computer table so that there is not a large enough space between the table and the outlet for children to become entangled in the cords. If the table needs to be moved a barrier, like a chair, will be placed between the table and the outlets.
