An unannounced monitoring inspection was done today March 14, 2016 by two inspectors beginning at 8:20 AM and ending at 12:30 PM. There were 111 children present today including school age children as public school was not in session today. The inspectors observed the children in the classrooms during activities such as singing, marching to music, reviewing colors, shapes, signing and sounds. Storytelling and table activities were also observed. The inspectors reviewed three medications. Six children's and seven staff files were reviewed . This included newly enrolled children and hired staff. The end of breakfast and part of lunch were observed. Nap was also observed today. The outside play area was not reviewed today due to the weather. The inspectors observed positive interactions between the staff and children. Good staff communication was also observed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-D Description: Based on observation the center did not have a lead teacher in a group of children after the first hour of opening. Evidence: 1. During the inspection upon entering the toddler classroom at 8:25 the LI observed two staff # 8 & 9 who were identified as aides in the classroom with the children. There was no lead teacher in the classroom at this time. The LI notes there were three administrative staff at the center. Plan of Correction: The owner will review the schedule for staff and rearrange as necessary. She will monitor the classroom numbers more closely.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-4 Description: Based on observation the ratio in the four year old classroom was not met. Evidence: 1. During the inspection the LI upon entering the classroom shortly after arrival at 8:20 AM , observed 14 children with 1 staff member. The one staff to ten children ratio was not met. The LI notes there were three administrative staff present at the center at this time. Plan of Correction: The owner will review the schedule for staff and rearrange as necessary. She will monitor the classroom numbers more closely.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-5 Description: Based on observation the ratio in the school age classroom was not met. Evidence: 1. During the inspection the LI upon entering the classroom shortly after arrival at 8:20 AM , observed 23 children with 1 staff member. Staff # 6 indicated the youngest age child was five years old at the time. The one staff to eighteen children ratio was not met. The LI notes there were three administrative staff present at the center at this time. Plan of Correction: The owner will review the schedule for staff and rearrange as necessary. She will monitor the classroom numbers more closely and be more prepared for when public school is not in session.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation the center did not provide the proper food components at lunch. Evidence: 1. During the inspection the LI's observed lunch which consisted of pepperoni pizza, banana, cookies and milk. This lunch was in need of an additional vegetable or fruit. 2. The orange juice served at breakfast is not 100 % juice. One required component for breakfast is 100% juice. Plan of Correction: The owner will purchase a different brand of orange juice that is 100% juice. She will also add another vegetable or fruit to pizza day.
