An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on April 21st 2016 between 12:00pm and 1:45pm. There were no children in care at the beginning of the inspection, but as schools released the center had 93 children in the direct care of 7 staff members. Children were observed eating lunch, being checked in, and preparing for the day. Staff prepared the day care space in anticipation of the children, and the areas were clean and ready for the children. A sampling of children's and staffing records were inspected as well as the first aid kit, medications, authorizations, emergency preparedness plan, evacuation drills, shelter-in-place drills, and the physical space.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A
Description: Based on records reviewed, it was determined that 1 of2 medications were not being managed in a way consistent with established regulations. Evidence: A long-term medication did not have a written physician authorization that authorized the center to administer the medication. The paperwork on site authorizes the county schools to administer the medication, but not the center directly. A short term authorization, which must be renewed after 10 days, was signed by the parent September 2015.

Plan of Correction: We will notify the parent today. They will complete the temporary authorization so that they can get the physician authorization completed.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K.
