- Technical Assistance:
The following was discussed with the owner/director: *It is recommended the wooden patio/walkways are evaluated. As time goes on nails and other hardware begins to rust and wood can deteriorate. *When using cleaning products please follow the manufacturer's instructions and warning labels. Any product that has a warning label should be locked and kept out of the reach of children.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:30am-11:00am. A sample of 2 staff and 4 children's records were reviewed in addition to 4 medications. Children were observed eating morning snack, dancing to music, during circle time and during morning drop-off.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. In the 2 year-old room there was peeling paint/wall paper in the bathroom stall. 2. In the 4 year-old room the hand washing sink's edge was peeling. 3. Outside of the toddler building there was a wooden bench that had areas of splintered wood. Plan of Correction: The director will have maintenance take care of all physical plant issues.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: In the infant room there was a container of Clorox bleach wipes on a shelf. Plan of Correction: The staff moved the bleach wipes to a locked box during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure electrical outlets had covers. evidence: In the 2 year-old room there was a power strip in reach of the children that had 2 outlets without covers. Plan of Correction: One of the administrators removed the power strip during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-I Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure there were no objects placed outside of an infants crib that were in reach of the infant. Evidence: An an baby was observed in a crib in the infant room. There was a fiber filled stuff toy that hung from the side of the crib and was in reach of the baby. Plan of Correction: The toy was removed during the inspection. Management will retrain infant staff on infant safety and SIDS.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on a record review the center failed to implement monthly practice evacuation drills. Evidence: The center did not have documentation of practicing an evacuation drill for the month of September 2016. Plan of Correction: This was an oversight. A drill was implemented however was not documented.
