An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 12:00pm-2:20pm. Upon arrival there were 49 children in care with 7 staff present. A sample of 2 staff and 4 children's records were reviewed in addition to 4 medications. Children were observed during nap and preparing for snack.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure areas and equipment inside and outside were maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: On the playground the swing set had the following hardware: washer, a screw and a nut attached, creating space for entanglement. Plan of Correction: The owner will have her maintenance person cut the nails so that no more than 2 thread are exposed and other hardware would not be needed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: On the steps of one of the entrances to the center there was a gallon bottle of foaming coil cleaner used for the Air Conditioning unit. Plan of Correction: The air conditioner was being serviced this morning and this bottle was left behind, The owner removed it and placed it in a locked area.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation and a record review the center failed to ensure all requirements were met when providing meals and snacks. Evidence: The center's menu stated graham crackers were to be served however children were observed having pretzels for snack. Plan of Correction: The owner thinks the new menu had not been posted. She will check with the food service manager to ensure the correct menu is posted daily.
