An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on May 5, 2017. There were 44 children observed with six staff members. Additional staff and volunteers were on site for administrative and support purposes. The children were observed having lunch, washing their hands, reading books and napping. Three children's records and two medications were reviewed. As indicated by the staff and posted documents, the outdoor play equipment is not being utilized at this time. The outdoor play area was not inspected on this date due to inclement weather. Exit interview conducted with Center Coordinator/Lead Teacher.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation and inspection of the facility, the staff members did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. If a key is used, the key shall not be accessible to the children. Evidence: 1. During the inspection conducted on May 5, 2017, in Room 2, the licensing inspector observed keys in the lock of the closet door. Staff member opened the closet and the following hazardous substances were observed: one bottle labeled bleach-water solution, one bottle of glass cleaner, one can of roach and ant spray, and three cans of disinfectant deodorant spray. 2. All items were labeled keep out of reach of children and warning or caution. Plan of Correction: To make sure they take keys out by keeping it on themselves or putting it up where children cannot reach.
