Discussed upcoming changes to background check requirements. Discussed labeling water cups and sunscreen as names become illegible.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 9:15am-11:45am. There were 225 children directly supervised by 50 staff. Children were observed arriving to the facility, creating open ended artwork, making mother's day gifts, during transition to play outside, and eating snack (juice and bread). Artwork was displayed throughout the facility. The physical environment, 5 staff records, 5 child records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, and policies were inspected. Diapering and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-B Description: Based on observation, sunscreen containers were not labeled with the child's name. Evidence: In classroom 211, three children had sunscreen available in their cubbies that were not labeled with the child's name. Plan of Correction: Corrected at the time of inspection. Staff will be reminded to label all sunscreen in the future.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-C Description: Based on observation, diaper ointments and creams in one classroom were not inaccessible to children. Evidence: In classroom 204, diaper ointments and creams were stored under the diaper changing table. The lock on the cabinet door was broken leaving the diaper ointments and creams accessible to children. Plan of Correction: Corrected at the time of inspection. Diaper ointments and creams were moved to a high cabinet until a lock could be installed.
