Comments:
Licensing Inspector arrived at 9:00 AM and departed at 2:15 PM to conduct a complaint visit in conjunction with an unannounced monitoring as well as a subsidy health & safety inspection. At the time of the tour, there were 66 children ages two through preschool in care with eight staff. Although the complaint is deemed NOT VALID, a violation was cited in programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on review of the video tape, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that behavioral guidance was constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior. Evidence: 1. During review of the video tape of a classroom on April 25, 2017, staff #1 was observed grabbing child #1 by the arm and pulling them roughly across the floor to sit next to the staff member during a circle time activity. 2. During review of the video tape of a classroom on April 25, 2017, staff #1 was observed picking up the end of a nap mat that had a child resting on it and dragging it across the floor.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be retrained in classroom management and positive redirection of children with behaviors problems in the classroom. Center management will monitor the interactions with staff and children on an ongoing basis to ensure quality and care of classroom management techniques.
