Current Inspector: Julia Kimbrough (276) 608-4267

Inspection Date: May 5, 2017

Complaint Related: Yes

Areas Reviewed:

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office on 05/05/2017. Interviews were conducted with staff relating to allegations that ratios aren't being met in the afternoon. The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the investigation supports allegations, so the complaint is determined to be valid. Please contact me if you need further assistance. Thank you.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-4
Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on discussions with staff the facility failed to maintain compliance with this standard as required relating to staff to child ratios. Evidence: Based on staff interviews staff confirmed that on 04/26/2017 there were 25-27 children in care in the preschool /Head Start classroom from 2:30-4:15, with only 1 staff member present. Staff interviews also confirmed that this over ratio occurrence happens a few times a week as there is an influx of extra children arriving from the public schools preschool program and into the preschool program at the facility each afternoon. Staff stated that the children are moved around to various classrooms so that the ratio can try to be met each afternoon. The required ratio for the preschool aged children is 1 staff to 10 children.

Plan of Correction: Staffing & scheduling has been adjusted to ensure that ratios are being met on a daily basis.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
