Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced annual subsidy health and safety inspection conducted today, July 11, 2107. The on-site inspection was from 10:10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On this date, there were 112 children present and in the care of 19 staff members. There were two additional staff members available to assist if needed. There were 156 children enrolled in the center. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice. The records of ten new staff members and two long-time staff members were reviewed. Ten children's records reviewed and eight classrooms were observed. There were eight staff members and six children interviewed. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for five children. The subsidy requirements were discussed with the director and the emergency plans were reviewed. If you have any questions, please contact your licensing inspector at (540) 280-0742.
Standard #: VENDSUB-000-012-D Description: Based on record review and verification from the director, the center failed to provide orientation training to new staff members on the topics of shaken baby syndrome and safe sleep. Evidence: 1. The orientation training records for the ten staff members hired after January 1, 2017 did not contain documentation that they were trained on the topics of shaken baby syndrome and safe sleep. 2. The director confirmed the new staff had not been trained on these topics. Plan of Correction: At the July staff meeting, the director will train all staff on the topics of shaken baby syndrome and safe sleep. From now on, she will ensure all new staff are trained on the topics during their orientation training before they begin working with children. She will add these topics to her orientation checklist.
