An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 11/7/17 from 8:50am - 11:00am. During the inspection there were 50 children ages two years old to five years old in care with seven staff. A tour of the facility was conducted and children were observed in a variety of activities in the classrooms, playing outside, and eating morning snack. Records were reviewed for five children and five staff. Medication, emergency procedures, and emergency supplies were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice, and were discussed during the exit interview.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation and interviews, it was determined that provider did not ensure that when centers choose to provide meals or snacks, the center shall follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the USDA. Evidence: 1. The Licensing Inspector observed children during the morning snack eating dry Cheerios and water. 2. Staff #6 (Program Director) confirmed that there were not two components, as defined by the USDA, served to the children during morning snack. Plan of Correction: The facility responded: Bullfrogs and Butterflies school does not serve lunch (parents bring lunch), but two snacks are provided each day. Bullfrogs and Butterflies provides healthy options for snack as provided in the enrollment package to all customers. As of October 1, 2017 updated meal standards requires child day centers to provide two snack component options from the 5 components on the USDA child meal pattern with each snack. Bullfrogs and Butterflies will now offer two versus one component at each snack time.
