22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.
An unannounced complaint inspection was initiated in the center on November 15, 2017 and completed on November 21, 2017 regarding a complaint received by the department on November 15, 2017. The complainant reported concerns related to the area of programs and supervision regarding infants. Based on observation and inspection of the facility, a review of documentation and staff interviews, there is not a preponderance of evidence to support the allegation regarding programs or infant supervision therefore the complaint has been determined to be NOT VALID. During the inspection there was a violation cited not related to the complaint. Area of non-compliance is noted on the violation notice. The results of the inspection were reviewed and verified with the center representative during the exit interview. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-F Complaint related: No Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure children under 10 years of age were within actual sight and sound supervision of staff. Evidence: During the inspection on November 15, 2017, at 1:45 p.m. the only center staff (staff #1) in the toddler room left the classroom while the five toddlers in the classroom were sleeping. Staff #1 indicated they went to the front of the center to talk to someone. Staff #1 returned to the classroom at 1:47 p.m. The toddlers were without sight and sound supervision from 1:45 p.m. until 1:47 p.m. Plan of Correction: Plan of Correction: I would make sure that we have adequate enough staff to be able to go to answer the front door and help relieve staff. Will encourage staff to ask for relief before leaving room.
