- Technical Assistance:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 2/7/18 at 9:30 a. m. and concluded at 12:30 p. m. The inspector met with the program director and Child Day Center standards were reviewed.
The following staff-to-child ratios and activities were observed:
Infant A (6wk-8m)
Eight infants with two staff. The infants were having free play with two infants napping. Staff were observed feeding some infants and some infants were having free play on the floor.
Infant B (8m-16m)
Ten infants with three staff. The infants were having free play with one infant napping. Some infants were painting under the supervision of a staff.
14 children with three staff. The children were observed in art, free play and a sensory table filled with cotton balls.
There were 16 children with two staff. The children were observed painting, in home living, free play with cars and trucks.
(2 1/2 years-3 years)
There were 15 children with two staff. The children were observed in art, home living, books and sensory table.
(Young 3 years)
There were 18 children with two staff. The children were observed making Valentines Day Boxes, playing with plastic animals and other table toys.
There were 20 children with two staff. The children were observed making a Heart Tree for art, table top activities, blocks and home living.
There were 18 children with two staff. The children were observed lacing, using scissors to cut out hearts, playing in home living and blocks.
Ten staff records were reviewed.
Ten children's records reviewed.
Four children's medications reviewed.
Conversations were held with several children and staff.
Classroom observations were conducted.
The last evacuation drill was conducted on 1/31/18.
Two shelter-in-place drills conducted in 2017.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-1 Description: Based on review of staff records the center did not have a criminal history record on one staff. Evidence: On 2/7/18, staff #1 did not have a processed criminal history record report within 30 days of employment. Plan of Correction: The director contacted Virginia State Police to obtain a copy of the initial background check which was done on 10/25/16. The director ran a clearance on 2/7/18 and received results immediately. Staff #1 will get the fingerprint background checks completed.
