Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today, March 27, 2018 to determine compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 11:00 am and concluded at 2:30 pm. Upon the inspector's arrival children were observed preparing for lunch. Children washed their hands and sat at the table. Today's lunch consisted of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit and milk. One child arrived late and lunch was prepared for her. After lunch children watched a movie before going down for nap. Later the toddler class was read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, blew bubbles and sang songs. Preschool children worked on decorating paper bunnies. Children painted, glued glitter and cotton tails onto the bunnies. Children in the toddler room reviewed animal sounds. Staff were observed feeding and rocking infants in the infant room. All areas of the facility were inspected. There is age appropriate materials in each classroom. The first aid kit and non-medical supplies were inspected and found complete. Repairs had been completed on the playground fence. The center had the following required information posted: the license, most recent inspection notice, menu, daily schedule, allergy list, emergency numbers and various parent information. The inspector interacted with staff and children in care. Six staff and five children's records were reviewed. Medication, authorizations and allergy action plans were reviewed. The most recent evacuation drill was conducted on 03/15/2018. The two required shelter-in-place drill were documented on 02/14/2017 and 03/01/2017. One of the two required shelter-in-place drills was documented on 02/16/2018. A lock down drill was completed on 06/06/2017 and 03/01/2018. Today's Ratios Observed: Infants: 2 children with 1 staff. Toddlers": 5 children with 1 staff. Pre-school: 11 children with 3 staff. Violations from previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-L
Description: Based on observation and interview, the facility did not ensure pillows were not used by children under two years of age. Evidence: 1. Cots had been put out in the toddler room for nap time. Three cots had pillows on them along with the linens. 2. Staff identified the three children, who who's cots were out with pillow, as being under the age of two years.

Plan of Correction: Staff removed the pillows from the cots before the children went down for nap. Per the owner: Pillows will not be used for children under two years of age.
