Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted this date. A total of 22 children with 7 staff present today. Observation of both the Infant 1 and Infant 2 classrooms was conducted. In the Infant 2 class, children were observed playing freely with the newly added climbing structure. This activity provided gross motor activity for the children. Ample books, balls, tactile toys and colorful posters within eye level of the children were available for them. Staff were observed singing, dancing and encouraging children to stand independently and take a step. In the Infant 1 class, staff were observed holding the infants while bottle feeding them. Infants were observed being re-positioned from one area to the area to promote stimulation. Tummy time was observed for those infants where are not able to roll over as yet. The area was filled with ample swings, bouncy seats, exersaucers and support chairs to encourage upper trunk strength development. A nice transition was made from free play in the Infant 2 class to hand washing and and being seated at the table for lunch. Sufficient staff on site to hand wash each child, buckle them in their chairs at the table and serve lunch in a timely manner. Lunch today was pasta, turkey, peas and fresh fruit. Children completed lunch and transitioned to nap time where staff were observed rubbing children's backs and sitting next to them to encourage sleep. A total of 5 children's records, 5 staff records, all medications and topicals were reviewed today and determined complete. Thank you for your cooperation today. This inspection began at 10am and ended at 12:45pm. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@dss.virginia. gov
