Technical Assistance:
A discussion was had with the director in reference to cleaning and sanitizing surfaces.

Comments:
An inspection was conducted this morning between the hours of 8:30am-12:00pm by Derek Acosta and Nancy Radcliffe. There were 32 children and 6 staff present, good ratios were maintained in each classroom. Classroom observations were made seeing the children playing in centers, story time, Legos, writing, and returning from a walk. Medications, emergency kits, playground, 5 children's files and 5 staff files were reviewed. If you have any questions contact nancy.radcliffe@dss.virginia.gov 703-268-3728.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation areas of the center were not maintained in a clean and safe condition. Evidence: 1. In the Bears classroom, peeling materials were observed on the couch and chair in the housekeeping area. 2. In the Toddler classroom the purple and green caterpillar which was repaired previously, was observed to have peeling and fraying corners. 3. The couch in the upstairs classroom was observed to have ripped/peeled cushions.

Plan of Correction: New furniture for the classroom was already purchased and I will remove the older worn pieces.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation hazardous material, such as cleaning products are not secured in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1..The kitchen door was open, leaving access to material that states on the label keep out of reach of children. 2. The hallway laundry room has a lock, but it does not securely lock the doors, leaving cleaning agents accessible to children. 3. The upstairs after school room cleaning material were located under the sink in an unlocked cabinet.

Plan of Correction: The doors have locks, they just were not secured properly.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3
Description: Based on observation not all electrical outlets have protective covers. Evidence: Two classrooms: the Dolphins and Monkey, were observed to not have outlet covers in place.

Plan of Correction: Covers will be replaced today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation the diapering surface was not cleaned and sanitized after each use. Evidence: 1.Observation was made of a child being changed in the Monkey classroom, proper procedures were followed during the changing and staff washed her hands after changing, child's hands were not washed after the changing. 2. Observation was made of the staff member sanitizing the diaper changing table with bleach water, but not cleaning with soap and water first.

Plan of Correction: I will make soap and water bottles and make sure each classroom has one.
