22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included information regarding new background check regulations.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:45 - 12:30 pm. There were three classes present today with 25 children. I observed children involved in literacy challenges ("I'm thinking of a food that begins with a "V"); eating snack; painting and playing outdoors. The science center involved featured the children's nature journals with drawings of footprints, birds, seed pods, shells and other observations from their explorations. If you have any questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, some areas and equipment of the center were found not to be maintained in a safe condition as required. Evidence: Outdoors: 1) The resilient tiles under and around the airplane structure were uneven and unaligned, creating a tripping hazard.(repeat violation) 2) There were cables that were beginning to come loose on the side of the brick wall. 3) Children were observed climbing on the slide when a fast rain earlier that day left wet areas that accumulated standing water in the steps of the slide. Indoors: 1) A plastic mat in the art area was observed to be beginning to separate, causing a tripping hazard. 2) There was a sharp metal edge exposed on the bottom of the writing board in one room. 3) A display had a set of lights in the shape of stars that were unplugged and dangling at child height (repeat violation.) Plan of Correction: Outdoors: We will remove the tiles and keep a large amount of mulch there. The cables will be tacked tighter to the wall, and staff or parent will check the playground before going outdoors when it has rained earlier in the day. Indoors: I will tape the mat and the sharp area on the writing board. The lights were corrected during the inspection, and staff will be reminded to keep this out of reach.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on a review of medications and records today, one of the medications was found to be to be outdated. Evidence: An emergency allergy medication for Child # 1 was found to have an expiration date of 3/18. Plan of Correction: I will talk to the mother today.
A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.
The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
