An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 2:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. with the director. 78 children, ages 5 months through 5 years old, were in the care and supervision of 15 staff. Children were observed eating snack, being fed, listening to a readaloud, playing with puzzles, and playing outside. The four playgrounds were inspected. Required information was posted. Both the fire inspection (10/2/17) and health inspection (11/21/17) are current. The last emergency escape drill was 4/25/18. The last shelter-in-place drill was 11/14/17. The last lockdown drill was 3/14/18. Four staff records, six children's records, and three medications were reviewed. A subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was also conducted (see separate report). For any questions about this inspection, please contact licensing inspector Marty Quade at (540) 272-5065 and Marty.Quade@dss.virginia.gov.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation of snack time, the center did not follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which requires two food components to be served for snack. Evidence: During afternoon snack time, the children were served Nutri-Grain bars and water. Plan of Correction: A second afternoon snack component was indicated on the menu for Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Many parents had requested that their children not have juice, so we had discontinued serving juice. We will update our menus to include an alternative second component other than juice.
