SNAP Work Requirements

Recent changes to federal law expanded the number of SNAP customers who must meet work requirements to continue receiving benefits. Customers subject to these requirements must complete at least 80 hours of work, education, training and/or volunteering each month. For customers who remain eligible, benefit amounts will not change as a result of the new work requirements. 

These changes are required by federal law and apply to every state. They are not decisions made by the Commonwealth.  

Virginia is committed to helping every eligible Virginian continue to receive the benefits they rely on. In support of Governor Spanberger’s Executive Order 20, the Commonwealth is working to help eligible SNAP customers remain enrolled and connected to employment, education, training and other resources.
