Protect Yourself from EBT Scams

The Virginia Department of Social Services is aware of attempts to steal SNAP EBT card information. You can take simple steps to protect your benefits.

You will never be asked to share your EBT card number or PIN.

What to Watch For

Scammers may try to contact you by text, email or phone. They may:

  • Ask for your card number or PIN
  • Send links to “unlock” or “verify” your account
  • Claim there is a problem with your benefits

Do not respond.
VDSS will not contact you this way.

How VDSS Will Contact You
