Medical Assistance Services

If you have lost your medical assistance benefits, need affordable care or have other medical, behavioral health, dental or prescription needs, you may qualify for free or low-cost services provided by one or more of the following programs.   

• Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics provides a searchable directory of free and low-cost medical, dental, mental health and pharmacy services.  

• Find A Health Center is a searchable directory for locating federally funded community health centers that offers affordable primary, dental and mental health care on a sliding fee scale.  

• The Virginia Department of Health oversees public health in Virginia through local health districts as well as family health service information.  

• The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS) provides a variety of resources to keep Virginians healthy and thriving, including behavioral health services, adult preventative services, and dental care. 

• UVA Health and VCU Health can help with paying medical bills through financial assistance and payment plans. 

• Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace helps individuals find health insurance coverage and may provide financial assistance for those who are unemployed, self‑employed or without access to affordable employer‑sponsored insurance. 

• The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services provides treatment for mental health and substance use through local community services boards.
